A Cellular Phone Plan or Pay As You Go Cellular?
I’ve had cellular phone plans for the past 5 years. Prior to that I lived in Italy where everything is pay as you go. It Italy I got spoiled in the fact that I could buy as many minutes as I wanted and use them as fast or as slow as I want to, without the pressure of having to buy more minutes to keep my phone active. Anytime you bought minutes it got you six months of active service. There was no cellular phone plan. Pay as go in Italy also meant that you could buy a new sim card from a different company and use it with your current phone. Here you are bound to whatever phones you service provider has available.
My celluar phone plan ends this coming April and I am ready to go with pay as you go cellular. The reason is that I pay for a certain amount of time now that I very rarely even come close to using. I pay a pretty high price for a phone that I rarely use. With a pre paid service I will spend less money. I am only interested in one prepaid cell phone company- NET 10. I like the offers they have there. You simply pay .10 cents a minute for every call.
One day the majority of cellular phone plans in the U.S. may all be pay as you go or prepaid. I believe the prices will get better because of the competition.
Some advantages to look forward to are no monthly bills. If you choose not to buy minutes you can do that without worrying about your credit being affected. That brings us to the no credit check aspect of pay as you go cellular. The fact that your private records do not need to be accessed in order to use a prepaid cell phone is a good thing. With monthly cellular plans if you want to change your plan, many times they will ask you to commit to another 1-2 year contract. With pre paid, if I find something better I can switch with no questions asks. This the kind of freedom I am looking for with my cell phone plan.
