The iPhone comes in 8 gig and 16 gig storage capacities. I recently purchased the 8 gig and I must say that I am quite impressed with the phone itself. There are a myriad of functions that come on this phone. And then there are thousands of 3rd party applications that you can get for the phone. Priced at only $199 this phone is a great buy.
The first thing I noticed about the phone was how easy it was to navigate. There is an icon to access each application on the iPhone home page. The icons can be arranged in any order of your choosing by touching and holding any of them. When they start to wiggle you can move them around the screen to your personal preference. When you have the desired arrangement click the home button at the bottom of the phone and you’re done.
The sound quality of calls is crystal clear. To make quick calls you may add names from your contacts to a favorites category. Then simply touch the name of the person you want to call. You may also go to your contacts and touch the number you want dialed and the iPhone does the rest. Or you can simply choose to use the number pad to manually dial in a number. Everything about telephone portion of this unit is easy. The reason is that it is so visual. For instance, with voice mail you can see a list of the messages you have. You can listen to them in any order by touching the desired message. You can listen through the external speaker by touching the speaker button.
One of my favorite functions on the phone is the text messaging application. The program keeps track of your converstations like a chat screen on your computer. Perhaps this is just new to me. I’m used to the very small screen on my old razor phone, which I really liked, but this makes it a lot more fun to text, which I used to hated. iPhone keeps track of all of your text message converstations with everyone who text you, or, with whom you’ve initiated a text conversattion.
iPhone is the ultimate PDA. It has a calendar which is breeze to sync with your computer. I have already mentioned the contacts application, which is amazing for keeping info on the people that you know. It comes with email, and web surfing applications. You can setup multiple email accounts on the phone. The Safari browser is as easy to use as any desktop browser. All of these applications are updated on your phone and on your computer during syncing.
The phone comes with a camera that takes great photos but you’d better have steady hand. The slightest movement will render a blurry shot. You can also load the phone up with photos from your computer. You can browse thru your photos with the swipe of a finger on the screen.
The best feature of all is the fact that you can download other applications from the apps store. There is an icon on the phone that will take right to the store where you will find thousands of applications both for purchase and for free. I like to have my bible and some of my favorite books available so I was able to download several versions of the bible. I also have an application from eReader.com. With that, I can download books I have purchased on the site. This great for a long trip. Of course everyone konws that you can carry whatever music you want to listen to in the iPod application. With this app you can download purchased movies, rented movies, audio books, and tv shows as well.
These are just a few of the functions and features of iPhone that I have experienced since my purchase. The only thing I see as a draw back is the fact that in the United State the only cell phone network availble for iPhone is AT&T. I didn’t find that the price of the service was as good as what I had with another carrier. And there is weak coverage in the area where I live, but, not so weak that I have to get up and go outside trying to find a signal. I would love to have had the iPhone with my old carrier. Bottom line, iPhone is an incredible hand held unit with an incredible price.
