A modem is described as an electronic device that converts digital data to an anolog signal that will be transmitted over an anolog line like a cable line or a telephone line. Once that information reaches it’s destination a modem at the other end converts the signal again back to digital for interpretation by another computer.
An Optical Modem
The optical modem works along the same principal accept that it converts your computer’s signal to optical, for transmission over a fiber optics cable and an optical modem on the other end converts the signal back to an electronic signal for interpretation by another computer.
Speed
A fiber optic cable has an enormous capacity which allow you to transmit much lager amounts of data than a typical modem. This means that you will can send data at much quicker rates.
